The KL2, a CTSA-funded K12 equivalent, offers funding for six MD and/or PhD scientists across the spectrum of basic, translational, and clinical science who have not yet received an NIH K, R01, or equivalent. The program has a robust training infrastructure that includes a weekly work-in-progress session for KL2s, VFRS scholars, and select postdocs and graduate students; resources such as internal grant reviews, workshops, and seminars; as well as access to CTSA-wide programs such as virtual visiting professorships. In addition to the six KL2 scholars, we fund internal career development awards for 6-10 scholars each year, who often go on to become KL2 recipients. Since the program’s inception in 2008, all KL2 scholars have received federal extramural funding, and more than 95% remain in academia.
The Edge for Scholars Office provides early career faculty with a broad array of resources to help them succeed. In addition to those mentioned above, these include a library of over 400 funded grants, manuscript writing groups, grant writing workshops, and more. Our national website, edgeforscholars.org, hosts blogs by researchers around the world who provide practical advice to new faculty.
The program director will oversee all KL2 scholars, run work in progress sessions, work closely with the EFS leadership team and participate in other KL2 related activities. This position will require 10% effort.
The ideal candidate is an Associate Professor with mentorship experience who is excited to assume an institutional leadership role in career development and faculty support. Self-nominations preferred.
