To achieve compliance under the updated NIH Public Access policy, the Author Accepted Manuscript or the Final Published Article must be submitted to PMC for public availability without embargo upon the official date of publication.
The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries have negotiated a series of open access publisher agreements that waive article processing charges (APCs) and allow Vanderbilt and VUMC corresponding authors to publish open access with many major publishers, e.g., the American Medical Association (JAMA Network Journals), Springer Nature, Elsevier, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, Sage, and Lippincott Journals.
AUTHOR CONSIDERATIONS
- To confirm that the journal in which you plan to publish will automatically deposit articles on behalf of the author, consult the journal homepage or the Agreement Types section of the PMC Policies
- Review the VU open access publisher agreement list to confirm if there will be any associated APCs prior to submitting your manuscript to a journal
- Ensure you always provide research funder details and applicable grant number(s) to ensure that publishers recognize, and deposit NIH funded articles.
