Vanderbilt Faculty Research Scholars Application Information at a Glance
Due Dates Survey of Intent: January 15 (following Monday if 15th falls on a weekend)
Application: February 15 (following Monday if 15th falls on a weekend)
Application length 10 pages, including research proposal and career development plan
Annual salary from Faculty Research Scholars program Covers 75% of salary up to $85,0001
Departmental contribution for tuition, research, or travel support $10,000
Additional resource support from Faculty Research Scholar Program $15,000
Length of appointment Up to 3 years, renewable annually upon satisfactory academic progress
Citizenship requirements None for VUMC; VU employees must be citizens2
Doctoral degree requirements Clinical doctorate (MD, DO, DDS, PsyD, PharmD) or PhD, DrPH
Faculty appointment Minimum: Instructor appointment
Research focus Basic, translational, or clinical
Primary mentor faculty appointment requirement Primary mentor must be Vanderbilt faculty unless applicant is Meharry faculty, in which case primary mentor may be Meharry faculty

1 All scholars, both on the Vanderbilt University and VUMC sides, will be reimbursed for salary and supply costs based on their current salaries. Salary and research funds will be transferred as they are spent.

2 NIH-funded scholars through this mechanism must be US citizens or permanent residents. VUMC and VU employees may be appointed to the NIH-funded positions. Internally funded scholars at VUMC have no citizenship requirement.
