| Length of appointment | Up to 3 years, renewable annually upon satisfactory academic progress |

| Doctoral degree requirements | Clinical doctorate (MD, DO, DDS, PsyD, PharmD) or PhD, DrPH |
| Faculty appointment | Minimum: Instructor appointment |
| Research focus | Basic, translational, or clinical |
| Primary mentor faculty appointment requirement | Primary mentor must be Vanderbilt faculty unless applicant is Meharry faculty, in which case primary mentor may be Meharry faculty |
1 All scholars, both on the Vanderbilt University and VUMC sides, will be reimbursed for salary and supply costs based on their current salaries. Salary and research funds will be transferred as they are spent.
2 NIH-funded scholars through this mechanism must be US citizens or permanent residents. Internally funded scholars have no citizenship requirement.
